"Asking Questions is the First Way to Begin Change"

Coming to therapy for the first time can feel scary. Many people don't know what to expect when they show up and that's okay. To help take away some of the feelings of uneasiness, intimidation and unfamiliarity I have put together and answered questions I regularly hear before people come to therapy.

I hope you find it helpful!

What is EMDR?
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It's a unique, interactive psychotherapy approach used to reduce distress associated with traumatic memories. It helps organize and process traumatic experiences so they no longer control your reactions. Isn't that something you'd want?

How does Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) work?
CBT helps you understand how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. With CBT, we'll explore your patterns of thinking, challenge any unhelpful beliefs, and work towards changing behaviors that may be holding you back. We're in this together!  Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is like having a conversation with your thoughts. It's all about understanding the way your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. With CBT, we work together to help you challenge negative thought patterns and replace them with more positive, constructive ones. Think of it as spring cleaning for your mind.

What is EMDR and how does it help?
EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a unique therapy approach that helps individuals process and move past traumatic experiences. Imagine you're watching a scary movie, but you can control the remote. With EMDR, we're essentially doing the same thing, but with your memories. We're helping you take control, so you can heal and grow.

How can mindfulness help me manage stress and anxiety?
Mindfulness is about being present in the moment, not worrying about the past or the future. By practicing mindfulness, you can develop a calmer, more focused mind, helping you to better manage stress and anxiety.
