EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing. It is a structured therapy that uses the brain's innate ability to heal itself to help you process past memories. This is done by having the client briefly focus on the 'target memory' while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation. This is associated with reducing the vividness and emotions associated with painful and traumatic memories.
EMDR is currently the gold standard for trauma treatment. It has been extensively researched and has been shown as an effective treatment for PTSD, depression, anxiety, phobias as well as many other mental health issues and cormorbid symptoms.
